Turkish encoding is not working
Hi
it is a very nice idea and cool implementation but turkish characters are not viewing properly some encoding problems occur in the program
can you fix this ?
German Umlaute are garbled
Hi to all Chirpsters (especially to Chief Chirpster Eve),
I just installed the Mac version - congrats on getting it released!
I'm having one issue, though: Since about half of my Twitter friends twitter in German, I'm getting totally garbled sentences if they use Umlaute (vowels with dots on them like ö ä ü). Can you fix this?

I get a blank screen
Hey guys - for the past couple of days, when my computer goes into screensaver mode, I get just a blank Chirpscreen with no photos/etc. coming across. Same thing if I launch it from the Start menu. I haven't upgraded to the new version w/ the desktop viewer. I can try upgrading next, but if I can help you troubleshoot this before I upgrade, let me know. I'm on XP Pro.
By the way, I'm about to replace this machine (my personal laptop) with an Ubuntu machine. Got a Linux version coming out anytime soon for the 0.0001% of us who will be using it? :-)

Hi Ryan - sorry about that, our hosting provider was having some issues over the weekend. We think they're fixed now (and we're in the process of changing hosting services to try to prevent these service outages), so please let us know if you're still experiencing problems.
Linux is on the wishlist... but not very high on it ;)

Slowed things down
I also had problems getting the exit button. At one point, I had to alt-ctrl-delete to get it to exit. Then, my system was really slow and slow to respond overall. I had to remove chirpscreen from the system entirely. Sorry! Cute idea but I'd rather be able to do what I need to do than have a program that's just fun to have.

The "Exit" button doesn't seem to work
It seems lately in the last few updates, ChirpScreen is either so slow or non responsive to the Exit button that I cannot get control of my computer back in a reasonable amount of time.
I will probably try it out again in about 2 months to see if this issue has been resolved. I love the idea behind Chirp, but I cannot really let my computer be "taken over" by it.

Exit not working properly
It now takes 30-60 seconds to regain control of my system -- i.e., to get it out of chirpscreen screensaver mode. I have to hit the exit button repeatedly. Sometimes seems like it's never coming back...

Crashed with unrecoverable error
Left my computer on overnight to come back to a dialog box this morning titled: chirpscreen_mugato (Not Responding)
The text of the dialog box was:
Access Violation at address 0158DC4F. Write address of 00000000.
Crashed on install when I tried to connect to Facebook
Apparently Chirpscreen installed anyways and when I tried to connect to Facebook later I got the same runtime error message before it crashed. I was never able to add my Facebook account details.

Vista Ultimate Crash.
Running installer under Vista Ultimate. When the screen saver OS dialog comes up the .scr application seems to crash - there is a Vista dialog that it crashed and that windows is looking for solutions.
There is a lnk on the desktop and when I start it the same 'crashed' dialog comes up.
I ran it in WinDbg, but don't know if the following would be helpful:

Does the crash happen before the Screensaver really launches? Or do you ever see the chirpscreen logo?

Crash on Vista
downloaded and installed again on my Vista SP1 laptop (T60 widescreen).
Still the same crash when the installer runs and pops up the screen saver control panel. I tried with my usual two screen setup and then with just the laptop foldup screen. both times the install fails.
Facebook app bug
I know someone else reported this in Facebook itself, but when I try to add the Chirp Facebook Application, I get the following error:

Great stuff! I am just loving this app, but its make my PC so slowly and it begin to run away when I´m still using the PC.

Thanks for the bug report - we are aware of a subset of users who experience this problem, generally those who have an older version of Internet Explorer on their computer. We are working to address this problem, but in the meantime you might try upgrading your IE to see if that solves your problem.
Blank screen; no photos being shown
Chirp worked great for me for the first week I used it, but in the last few days, nothing gets displayed on the screensaver. I see the Chirp logo and the controls in the bottom right, but no photos, message updates, etc. I confirmed that I'm still connected to my Facebook account so not sure what's going on.

I've been using my Flickr account and the public photos and they've bothed stopped displaying anything. I've uninstalled the old version and have installed the newsest. My screen is still blank. I'm on Vista.

Looks like there's some limit to the number of tags you can use in the public photos feature. I removed most of them and it started working again.

Hi Richard - thanks for letting us know. It appears your Facebook session has expired; this is what happens if you don't check that box when you originally log into Facebook. If you disconnect from Facebook, and reconnect (log in again, and check the box!) to Facebook, it should work.
We are working on a better way to handle this situation - sorry for the hassle and thanks for trying chirpscreen.

Error on install
Something about access violations, couldn't create a file in a temp directory and issues accessing chirpscreen.scr or something. Good luck.
Chirpscreen for multiple users doesn't work
I set up Chirpscreen as my default screensaver. My wife also has access to the same computer, but has her own account. If I set her screensaver to Chirpscreen, it will give me all kinds of error messages and won't work for her. Your previous private beta version worked, by the way. I'm running Vista.

The 'public' version now doesn't support multiple monitors. I have a laptop and an external monitor. It only displays on my laptop monitor, and displays the background picture on my external one.
Your previous 'private beta' version actually did support multiple monitors. Surprised to see it went away. I'm running Vista Home Basic.
I'd really like to see this
I'd really like to see this fixed as well. Single screen screensavers look a bit odd on multi-monitor systems - which are getting increasingly popular.
It seems that when I switch
It seems that when I switch keywords or any settings in Controls, I have to restart Chirpscreen for the changes to take effect. If this is expected, you all should say so in the Controls panel.

Thanks for your feedback. While it is not necessary to restart chirpscreen for the new settings to take effect, there is currently a delay of up to two minutes until they show up. We are working on changing this, and you should see that issue get resolved sometime soon.

Suspend/Sleep mode
Chirp is great but it keeps running when I close my laptop lid. Two hours later I come back and my battery is half drained b/c the laptop could not go to sleep properly.

thanks for your feedback. chirpscreen does work on most vista installations, but we are still working on tracking down a few occasional problems (on both vista and xp). it would be helpful if you could let us know more information about what you were doing at the time of the crash, and what the screen showed and the error message received.

found possible problem
I had a problematic install of Chirp and received an error that Chirp couldn't write to a temp file. It said the program didn't install, but it looks like it possibly has- although under the add/remove programs, chirp isn't listed (so I can't uninstall it)
After playing with the settings it appears to work again, but I eventually get another error message

It won't install for me. Notepad opens up with a bunch of "greek"...one thing I can make out is "This program must be run under Win32."
If I hold the cursor over the chirpscreen.scr file in c:windows/system32 Windows Vista thinks it's a DWG TrueView script file.

Thanks Dave, do you happen to have Autocad installed? We've noticed Autodesk reassociates the .SCR filetype from the OS default 'screensaver' to their own scripting language document type. (an honest mistake on their part. .SCR is a nice extension for a script file.)

This may not be a bug but thought I would mention. Some photos' captions are not captured on the photo only but run out into the screen. Diana

Turned off Flikr, still getting photos
I turned on Flikr (keyword: Austin) and then decided I didn't want it (random photos weren't as cool as anticipated) so I turned it off. But I'm still getting Flikr photos on chirpscreen.

Ryan, thanks for the heads up. We believe we've fixed that bug (where basically the source wasn't always turned off) - let us know if you have any further issues with it.
As for public photo topics, we've found that the more specific the keyword, the better... but it can take some experimenting. "Corvette" might be my favorite so far.
